Doggy Day Care, Dog Walkers, Dog Groomers and more…
As a dog owner/guardian/carer of 4 dogs I know how helpful it can be to know where to find those services for our dogs when we need them. Dog walkers, dog sitters, doggy day care, dog groomers, dog physio, holiday cottages that accept dogs, etc. I also know how important recommendations are of these places that we entrust out valued family members to. Also as a small business myself, I know how helpful it can be when others share that we exist and what we do.
I asked for recommendations in some local Facebook groups to find out what was around my area, what they did and why they are chosen. This list covers South Shropshire and North Worcestershire mainly but some businesses serve Herefordshire and further up in Shropshire too.
Doggy Day Care
Oakridge Total Dog Care is located in Newnham Bridge near Tenbury Wells and do day care and home boarding. They also have a field to rent, which I have done, it is an acre and securely fenced. They also offer canine hydrotherapy in newly installed facilities. Brilliant staff, clean, fully attended facilities, day or half-day boarding at very reasonable rates.

Linda Callander of Happy Hounds is based in Ludlow and the longest serving dog day care in the area. She has a secure 6.5 acres for the dogs to run in with stimulation, agility, play barn and a heated day room. Dogs are besotted with her, have happy faces and hide when it is home time, recommendations by the dogs as well as the humans.

Andy Gatenby is an award-winning former guide dog instructor now giving pet dogs whatever their owners think will enrich their lives. He has now retired from dog training, he used to train three dogs at a time, match them to blind people who he trained to be handlers, then supported the partnerships throughout the dogs’ working lives and beyond. This cycle repeated every five months or so. Now he’s concentrating on making dogs happy when their owners can’t be with them, based on his assessment of the needs of the dogs and guided by the owner. Play, exercise, companionship, socialisation, holidays from home and, of course, lots of cuddles!
